An investigation by the prevention adviser is necessary to systematically analyse the causes of a (serious) accident, so that recurrence can be prevented and workplace safety is improved. This investigation must take place immediately or as soon as possible after the accident, as soon as the situation is safe and first aid has been completed, so that testimonies are fresh and the accident can be accurately reconstructed.

A workplace accident is an accident that occurs during or because of work and causes harm to an employee. The employer must report this to the insurer in a timely manner.
