Lights for Hope against Cancer - Together we support employees with cancer

A cancer diagnosis has a profound impact on the lives of employees. In addition to medical treatments, they often experience fatigue, concentration problems, emotional distress, and uncertainty about their professional future. Financial concerns can also play a role. Therefore, returning to work or continuing to work during treatment is not an obvious given and requires a careful approach.

As part of the Lights for Hope against Cancer campaign, Premed also draws attention to the well-being of employees with cancer within the work context. Correct information and appropriate guidance are central to this.

When preparing for a return to work, the employee can request a visit prior to returning to work with the occupational physician to discuss the possibilities and any limitations. The advice aims for a feasible and safe return to work, with attention to the balance between workload and capacity.

Follow-up remains important even after the effective return. The consequences of cancer can be long-lasting, both physically and mentally. Regular evaluation and open communication between employee and employer contribute to sustainable reintegration.

A well-thought-out reintegration policy and timely support help prevent overwork and promote well-being at the workplace. With this, we want to inform and sensitize companies about the importance of customised solutions and careful guidance when working with or after cancer.
