Since January 1, 2016, the periodic occupational health examination for VDU workers is no longer mandatory. Instead, legislation requires a VDU work risk assessment to be carried out at least every 5 years. This analysis should evaluate the risks due to VDU work at a group level and at an employee level.
In this risk assessment, attention must be paid to risks to eyesight and problems of physical and mental strain. Linked to this risk assessment, the employer must take appropriate measures to prevent or remedy the identified risks.
Specifically, the legislation states that this risk assessment can, if necessary, be supplemented with a survey of employees or with another instrument that assesses working conditions and/or any health problems related to working with a VDU.
Practical implementation of the risk assessment

- Online VDU work questionnaire with report
This online survey with report is a suitable risk assessment tool for larger companies (more than 20 VDU workers). This questionnaire covers the different elements of the VDU workstation (chair, desk, keyboard, mouse, screen, accessories, and environment). Additionally, attention is paid to working conditions and any health complaints. After this survey has been completed by your employees, you will receive a report from us regarding the submitted answers. In this report, we provide you with an overview of the anonymous results at group level. In addition, you will also receive general information about these risks and possible preventive measures.
- Paper VDU work checklist with information brochure
This paper VDU work checklist with information brochure is a suitable risk assessment tool for smaller companies (fewer than 20 VDU workers). This checklist will be sent to you digitally or on paper by Premed and you can distribute it to your employees.

The following interventions are among the possibilities:
- On-site optimization of individual VDU workstations: One of our ergonomists will individually adjust the workstations correctly together with your employees.
- 1-hour workshop 'VDU workstation setup': In this interactive workshop, employees learn how to correctly organize their VDU workstation (desk, chair, screen, keyboard) and what ergonomic principles are important to prevent complaints.
- 2-hour VDU work training: In this more extensive training, employees receive an overview of the risks of VDU work. Furthermore, it is explained how musculoskeletal disorders (back, neck, shoulder, and wrist complaints) and eye strain can be prevented. Employees learn how to correctly set up their VDU workstation and how to work comfortably at a VDU workstation.
