SDG

In the current business world, sustainability has become a keyword, especially for companies focused on long-term growth and social responsibility. The United Nations have established various sustainability goals that can help companies shape their strategies in this area. Interestingly, there is an overlap between these goals and the activities of the External Services for Prevention and Protection at Work (ESPPW). Furthermore, some companies are dealing with the European Union's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which places a significant emphasis on sustainability reporting.

The role of the ESPPW can be crucial for companies striving to achieve these overlapping sustainability goals. These ESPPW, which focus on safety and health in the workplace, have the expertise and resources to support companies in integrating multiple sustainability principles into their daily operations.

These are some of the 17 United Nations' sustainability goals where External Services can support companies if the latter wish to define actions within these goals:

1 End poverty everywhere and in all its forms: there is still a lot of poverty in Belgium. Especially among people without a stable income. ESPPW can be engaged to reintegrate people with health problems or disabilities into the workplace or to keep them working longer by exploring the possibility of adapted work together with their employer.

3 Good health and well-being: One of the most important aspects of the sustainability goals is promoting a healthy workplace. This includes not only physical health but also mental well-being. EDPBWs can help companies set up programs for employee well-being, stress management, and ergonomic workstations. These initiatives not only contribute to the health and productivity of employees but also to a more sustainable corporate culture.

5 Gender equality: through better working conditions, women can achieve equal employment opportunities. ESPPW can contribute to this. In this regard, also read our article about breastfeeding breaks.

8 Decent work and economic growth: ESPPW can help ensure that all women, men, young people, and people with disabilities have opportunities for decent work and income.

In addition, the ESPPW can guide companies in complying with the CSRD directive. This directive requires large companies and listed enterprises to report non-financial information, including information on environmental and social issues.

Finally, collaboration with the ESPPW offers companies a unique opportunity to strengthen their sustainability efforts. By leveraging their expertise, companies can not only comply with regulations and standards but also have a positive impact on their employees, society, and the environment. This emphasizes the increasingly important role of EDPBWs in supporting companies in navigating the complex world of sustainable business.
