On 16 March 2022, Directive (EU) 2022/431 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2022 amending Directive 2004/37/EC on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens or mutagens at work was published.

This directive establishes European binding occupational exposure limit values ('Binding Occupational Exposure Limit values' – BOELs) for acrylonitrile and for nickel compounds, and lowers the existing BOEL for benzene.

This directive enters into force on 6 April 2022 and must be transposed into Belgian law by 6 April 2024.
