In 2013, Fedris launched the continued health surveillance project to detect sinonasal cancers early in former woodworkers.

To be eligible, the former woodworker must meet the following conditions:

  • be at least 55 years old;
  • have been exposed to wood dust for at least 20 years in the private sector or in a provincial or local government service;
  • no longer work in the woodworking sector.

What are the warning signs of sinonasal cancer?

  • a blocked nose on one side without a clear reason for longer than two weeks;
  • spontaneous nosebleeds;
  • reduced sense of smell or no sense of smell anymore;
  • blood in the handkerchief when blowing the nose.
