In 2013, Fedris launched the continued health surveillance project to detect sinonasal cancers early in former woodworkers.
To be eligible, the former woodworker must meet the following conditions:
- be at least 55 years old;
- have been exposed to wood dust for at least 20 years in the private sector or in a provincial or local government service;
- no longer work in the woodworking sector.
What are the warning signs of sinonasal cancer?
- a blocked nose on one side without a clear reason for longer than two weeks;
- spontaneous nosebleeds;
- reduced sense of smell or no sense of smell anymore;
- blood in the handkerchief when blowing the nose.
