Ergonomics in legislation (code of well-being at work)

Many people are ill for a long time and are therefore unable to work. The government wants to tackle this problem by helping more people return to work faster.

Even more important is preventing employees from being (long-term) absent due to physical complaints. Employers and employees should ideally work together to create a healthy, safe and comfortable workplace.

Why is a good workplace so important?

Many people experience pain due to performing their work. These are complaints related to the back, neck, shoulders, arms or legs. These types of complaints are referred to as musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). They arise from, for example, a poor working posture, heavy load, or repetitive movements. Research shows that:

  • 46% of employees experience back pain;
  • 44% experience pain in the neck, shoulders or arms;
  • 31% suffer from pain in the legs, knees or feet.

If employers and employees do nothing, these complaints can worsen. People can develop chronic pain, which is not only harmful to their health but also has adverse consequences for the company. Employees are absent, there is loss of production and knowledge, and there are additional costs for replacement personnel. Healthcare itself also comes under greater pressure.

By properly furnishing workplaces and enabling employees to work healthily, we can prevent many problems. This helps to reduce long-term absence due to illness.

How can you prevent physical complaints (MSDs)?

Premed helps organisations with a structured approach to address ergonomic risks and prevent long-term absence. Our experts guide you every step of the way:

  1. Detect risks through observations and surveys.
  2. Conduct a targeted risk assessment tailored to the workstation.
  3. Develop a concrete action plan with feasible, effective recommendations.
  4. Provide training on ergonomic working (in group or individually).
  5. Evaluate and adjust, so that you achieve sustainable results.

Building a healthy workplace together

By ensuring an ergonomic and healthy work environment, companies can not only prevent illness but also ensure satisfied and productive employees.

Do you have questions about ergonomics or about returning to work after illness?
